60 Years Diplomatic Relations of  Indonesia - Rusia

The year 2010 has a significant to Indonesia and Russia since the two countries commemorative the 60th Anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year. The launching of this of commemorative cover is a part of commemoration. The relations between the two nations date back to the 17th Century during the leadership of King Peter I. Those days, Russian researchers called Indonesia "Archipelago Country". In 1984, numerous trading activities triggered the establishment of the Russian Consulate in Batavia.

Rusia played an important role in supporting Indonesia to achieve international recognition of its independence and sovereignty. In 1946, russia urged the Security Council of the United Nations Organization (UNO) to call the aggression of the Netherlands to Indonesia to a halt as well as conveyed its supports to the Independence of Indonesia to various bodies of UNO and other international organizations.

After the cold war, Indonesiaan-Russian relationship which was once frozen revived. The peak of the rejuvenation is their commitment to develop a friendly and partnership relations, signed in 2003. This commitment serves as a new foundation for the establishment of strategic bilateral, regional and global cooperation. Nowadays Indonesia-Russian cooperation comprises multidimensional fields, which vary from culture of defense cooperation.

Indonesia and Russia also share several things in common. The two countries have ethnic, religion and language diversity that constitutes a rich culture. By getting to know better the culture of each other, it is expected that the Indonesia-Russian economic and socio-politic cooperation, as well as other fields of cooperation will be highly developed, aiming to improve the welfare and prosperity of both nations and to further advance the role of both countries in contributing to the global peace and prosperity.
